In a couple of days many will celebrate Christmas, some according to surveys this year (2010) will give gifts (89%), many will have trees and decorate (70%), but only 49% will attend a worship service throughout the United States. I’m not complaining, after all as a pastor what would we do if, really, people came? MAYBE SING ALLELUIA!? Yet this morning as I’m drinking my coffee and having devotions I’m watching the birds around my four bird feeders. They are busy on the ground and hovering for position as they battle the cold and snow of winter.
As I watch them I don’t think I would like to be one of them. No, I like my coffee! So far in all my searches for good bird feed I’ve not come across that flavor. Have you?
Christmas is that reminder that Jesus did come in a manner of speaking as a bird. He left his riches of Heaven as being Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and took the form of a human-being. With our limits as opposed to his unlimitedness; our frailties as opposed to being perfect and told the world the God loves us. He hovered for position, ate what he could, became a part of the world we live in and have our abode. It was a choice of God’s – to come into the world and speak our language(s).
I hope you have a joyous Christmas season especially as we live into 2011. Know I am in prayer for you as I hope you are for me. May God help us to be people who make it easy for others to know God’s love.
Hey Lee, thanks for the great blogpost. May God richly bless you and your family this Christmas and every day!
